What to do after Venice?

Next October we are planning to honeymoon in Italy. We will fly into Rome, spend 3/4 nights in Rome, then take a train and spend 3/4 nights in Venice, after which we will rent a car to explore Italy for another week, possibly 2. My question is: where should we go after Venice?

I’ve been to Rome, Florence, Siena, Milan, some Tuscan villages. Im thinking we will spend some time in north Italy, maybe the Dolomites? I love the Alps. I also love medieval history so then maybe we can spend some time in Tuscany again on our way back to Rome to fly home? But really open to any suggestions or feedback based on your experiences. Theres so many amazing options in Italy!

Has your spouse/fiance been to Italy before?

How has the s/f answered the question?

If you haven't asked, you should. ( or buy insurance that includes repatriation of remains) :-)

LOL yes she was with me on previous trips, plus spent an additional 3 weeks in Tuscany by herself on a separate trip. We both loved Tuscany will likely want to stop there too on this trip. We are still in the early stages of planning so this is just really brainstorming

It easier to fly into Venice than out of Venice. It's also a great city to work thru jet lag. So perhaps fly into Milan or Venice, and out of Rome?
Congrats on the wedding! Safe travels!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
So many options indeed! If you only have one additional week after Venice, you could see Verona, Vicenza, the Dolomiti, Sirmione and other Lake Garda towns. Since you love the Alps, perhaps the Trentino area for most of the week, before heading back to Rome, Or opt to head west and see Milan and surrounding lakes and towns....Bergamo, Brescia, etc. (via train would be convenient) .
With an additional week, you could pick any of the above and get back to Rome via Bologna, Ferrara, down through Umbria, etc.
Soooo many choices.

You have plenty of time to narrow down your itinerary, so that's really the fun part! And there are medieval villages everywhere.

Hi, just to throw out a different fun option, I took a brief look at your other posts first, and you seem adventurous. So, if you’re open to renting a car, how about beginning in Venice, Take a train to Rome, and pick up a rental car there (or on the way), and drive into the Abruzzo region. Amazing mountains (I saw the beginning sets while I was in Sulmona) and villages! Or head into the Umbria region if you want to stay in places that are used to some Americans visiting.

I'd just say that October is not prime time for the Dolomites, which are wonderful for winter skiing or summer hiking, but not so much in between.

Jean and Janet have the right idea, IMO. October is getting late for the Dolomites. Umbria and Abruzzo are lovely, less-touristed areas, with great scenery and wines most Americans don’t encounter. We loved a week in Spello even in December, a good base for exploring the heart of Umbria. Abruzzo is quite diverse with gorgeous, wild mountains, and I would encourage you to watch the Stanley Tucci episode on Abruzzo, recently released on Hulu.

Hello,
I loved Verona! They have a Colosseum older than Romes! Great restaurants, shopping, history. I also loved Pisa. And Stresa in the Lake Maggiore is beautiful!
