What time of year to visit the Dolomites ( Northern Italy)

Hello All,

I'm planning a honeymoon trip for me and my fiance to visit the Dolomites this summer. We want to stay in Santa Magdalena as our base and then explore Seceda and Cinque Torri with a few hiking day trips. Afterwards make our way to Austria to Salzburg and Hallstat visiting the Salzkammergut region.

I've read different articles online saying July can be one of the rainiest or wettest months (2+weeks of so rainfall) along with being the warmest in the Dolomites versus August or September?(This answer seems to vary) I'm no stranger to hiking in the rain as I live in the Pacific Northwest ( Oregon) so I'm used to Alpine environments. Although for the purposes of the trip I'd prefer better weather.

Would love to hear everyone's opinion!

We had perfect warm, sunny weather in the Dolomites mid to late June. We based in Ortisei.

We're gong to hike in the Dolomites at the end of August. Picked that time after much research due to (a) better weather (b) fewer crowds.

Hi - we have visited the Dolomites in both late August and late September and the weather was beautiful and sunny both times. You will definitely enjoy the area - it is stunning!

Safe travels.

First of all, we're neighbors-- sort of. I live in Bend!

We're being brave and going to the Dolomites in early Oct. We're well aware that at that time of year the higher elevations may get some snow, but we're going to brave it. We live at elevation here in Bend, so we'll go prepared with good gear and a lot of attention paid to weather patterns. =0) I just call it extra excitement.

Hey there neighbor! love Bend.. One of my favorite trails in that area is the Tumalo mountain trail near Mt Bachelor, great summit with snowshoes. October in the Dolomites should be interesting! I wonder how much snow is capped on the mountians.
