What time for train to Venice from Florence following Heart of Italy

First time RS tour. (Heart of Italy Sept 18-25). Windering if a slow paced am after tour (maybe 11:00 train) or up and out early to Venice. Departing Florence on a Thursday, depart Venice Sunday. I know early birds will say one thing and late sleepers another-we can do either, just don’t know how late last dinner goes and how tiring the tour will be. Thanks in advance.

Jill,

I'd suggest taking the later (~11:00) train for a couple of reasons.....

  • if you arrive too early in Venice, your room may not have been serviced yet. That means you'll have to leave your luggage with hotel staff and then return later to check-in. There's a better chance that your room will be ready if you arrive in the early-to-mid afternoon.
  • I find that it's nice to relax and have a nice breakfast on the day the tour ends, especially as I've paid for it.

I'd also do the 11am, for the reasons above, and to pick up a picnic lunch at the station to eat on the train.

Another reason is, if you buy tickets now, it is cheaper late morning. Right now, the 7:15 is 32.90 EUR, later Freccia trains are up to 37.90 EUR, but the 11:30 is 28.50 EUR.
Looking at Italotreno, early trains are 29.90 EUR, but the the 10:54 is 19.90 EUR. Both Trenitalia Freccia and Italtreno will get you to Venice in 2 hours and 5 minutes.

hey jill
i'm on agreement with the rest of posters. enjoy the morning, have breakfast, pack up, check out and take an 11:00 or later train. as ken says, not too early if room not ready and where to store luggage. do look at train times as sam says, buy your ticket early for the discount, i've used trainline.com also.
don't be rushed, florence will be waiting for you. if plan A doesn't happen go to plan B. have a fun vacation and enjoy. don't forget the gelato.
