What test is required to transit through Canada?

My wife and I are flying from Portland, OR to Rome on WestJet next week which means we will change planes in Calgary. Do we need a PCR test to do that or do we just need to follow Italy's entry requirements? I don't think we're actually entering Canada but I'd hate to be wrong!

The government website says this about transiting through Canada by air: "During your connection at the Canadian airport
You must remain in the secure transit area to complete your connection. This means that you will not be allowed to collect your baggage, or check-in for your next flight anywhere but at your scheduled gate of departure.
You are exempt from testing and quarantine requirements, as long as you remain in the secure transit area to complete your connection within 24 hours.
If you need to leave the airport or the secure transit area due to a flight cancellation or delay, you become subject to mandatory quarantine until your flight departs."

YYC is an easy airport to navigate and make connections and there will be no reason for you to leave the secure area. I do believe you will have to go through Canada Customs prior to going to your next gate, but your luggage will go directly to the next flight provided you're taking WestJet or one of it's code share partners out of Portland. Plenty of red jacketed, cowboy hat wearing volunteers will be posted to show you where to go. Here's a link about connections https://www.yyc.com/en-us/travellerinfo/flyhealthyyyc/connections.aspx

I hope you'll love WestJet as much as I do, their new 787 Dreamliner is awesome.

Thank you everyone. We've got masks--we've got hand sanitizer--we're feeling flexible. I think we're ready to try this!
