What small town should we stop in overnight between Cinque Terra and Zurich

We are traveling with 2 adults and 2 school age children and I was wondering how long it will take to get ,by train, from Cinque Terra to Zurich and if it would be advisable to make an overnight stop mid way. We enjoy small picturesque towns and hiking.

Monterosso to Milan is 3 hours. From there it is another 3.75 to 4 hours to Zürich, depending on your route. An overnight stop on the way would be good. I can think of two villages in Switzweland that would be perfect. Both are charming and offer some great hiking opportunities. But either one would be about 2.5 hours from Milan, on the route to Zürich via Bern. Kandersteg is a pretty village right on the main line between Milan and Bern. There are nice hotels, like the Adler, within a 5 minute walk of the train station. your bags and walk through town the the lift going up to Oeschinensee, a beautiful mountain lake. Easy to moderate hiking trails lace the area, and the mountain inn at the lakeshore serves lunch and snacks, including great ice cream creations. Www.oeschinensee.ch My other suggestion would be Bettmeralp, a car-free village perched high above the Rhone valley. You reachbit by riding a large cable car some 4000 feet up from the train at Betten, about ten minutes east of Brig. The views from here are incredible, and extend west to the Matterhorn on a clear day. From the top of the ridge behind the town you can see the Aletschgletscher, the longest glacier in Europe. Several trails lead up to viewpoints on the ridge, passing through meadows with cows onnthe way. The town has a mini golf course and large indoor public swimming pool, and a nearbynlake that allows boating but not swimming. Www.bettmeralp.ch From Kandersteg you would have a2 hour ride to Zürich the next day; from Bettmeralp a bit more than three hours.

Thanks so very much for your reply. I am going to check out those websites. The towns sound like they are right up our alley!
