Just wondering what is your favorite paper map for all of Italy, Rome or Siena and why? We need to retire our old map and will be shopping for a new one. We do use online maps, but also like to use paper maps, especially for planning.
My favorite map of Rome is one by Fodors. It is my favorite because it came as an insert with the guide book Italy 2016.
I really prefer the Michelin maps, however they're pretty large in size.
I mostly use GoogleMaps.com online--taking written notes from point A to point B.
Before I hit the ground in major European cities, I'll magnify GoogleMaps two or three "pluses" and up pops icons with hotels, restaurants, etc. in the area.
When traveling Tuscany, we just take written notes and follow the road signs at the roundabouts. We never had any problem at all traveling without paper maps or GPS's
I really like the maps by freytag & berndt. Each type of road is a different color which makes reading the map very clear. I believe I ordered it online.
The Italian Touring Club has great maps, especially if you are driving.
