Last year we booked a trip to Europe and the fare was $1,500.00 per ticket until late March when it dropped to $800.00 per ticket. I have been trying to book Italy but the fare is $1,300.00. Maybe the Economy was just so bad last year that we got lucky. Should I just book it and hope it comes down (so I can cancel and re-book)?
I've read that the airlines are in trouble so they have cut some scheduled flights so there are less planes and the cost is more; don't quote me but I read that on USA Today.

Fares only going up. Fewer planes are flying, and they are filled, so they can ask premium pricing. This is from a friend of mine who has been a travel agent for over 20 years.
I am traveling to Europe in October, been watching fares since first of January...and they only go up. I booked as soon as I found a route/time that worked for me.
Last time I did this I booked to Switzerland for $875. This year I booked for $1079. A few days ago that same fare went up to $1139. I keep watching, just to satisfy myself that I did the right thing, and I feel I did.
I think it is going to be very tight this year. For example the best I could do for a business trip in May was $1200 to FRA, a market that is normally $700-$800 for a round trip at that date.
What dates are you going ?
Yes rates are way up this year
