What's the weather like on the Amalfi Coast and Capri in Mid to Late October

My family and I are planning a trip to the Rome, Amalfi Coast and Capri of next year during Mid to Late October. I've done the logical thing by looking at the projected weather forecast for that time period, but want to hear it from someone who knows the weather patterns in those areas. Typically, I find the month of October ideal to travel most places in the world, but are we pressing it for that time of year if we don't want too much cold, wind, and rough waters?

Hi Sandymc, we are planning the same trip mid Oct 2016 - we are also including Venice. I'm just planning on wearing layers and hoping for the best. :)

I have traveled to Rome and Amalfi at that time and the weather was spectacular! Weather can vary a lot in Italy (even from day to day!) but we have always found October to be lovely.

how about water temperature during mid October? I'm trying to see if we should do water activities?

kwongsters, I would think it would be too cold for water sports that time of year.

One thing to think about: the ferries to Capri will be running from Sorrento (unless the seas are really rough) but may be very limited or not running at all to locations around the Amalfi by the last week in October.

We just returned from 3 weeks in Italy - Oct.2-24 starting in Venice, ending in Sorrento . . . while I'm sure it's different yearly as it is here where I live . . . the weather was in the upper70s when we arrived in Venice the beginning of October and in the mid50s in Sorrento last week. It is the END of their tourist season, so lots of stuff was closing down, and the boats weren't always running. We took a great day trip to Amalfi Coast (Amalfi, Positano, Ravello) and to Herculaneum. Some of the best food we had in our 3wks there was in Sorrento (tomatoes were so amazing, and buffalo mozzarella). It was perfect for us, because the crowds were slowly leaving and the locals were preparing for end of tourism. It was windy some days, but sunny for the most part . . . it rained the day we arrived and the day we left, but we had 5 wonderful days of sun, mild wind, 50s-60s.

Sandy,
We just spent 6 days on the Amalfi cost from Oct 10 to Oct 17.
The weather was great. Mid 70'sF one day actually 79F.
We come from the colder northeast so it felt warm to us. If you come from warmer climates
bring some sweaters. We did find the seas were very rough however.
Rained one night and half of one day.
Enjoy it.
Joe
