Planning a trip to Cinque Terra in July 2015 and would like input on planning rail travel from the arrival city (Milan/Florence/Pisa?) to Cinque Terra. Also any input on recommendations on lodging in and around the Cinque Terra area would be appreciated. We are flexible in our options and are seasoned travelers. Thanks in advance, Russ & Joanne
The Pisa Airport is the closest. I think that would be easiest. then a quick train ride from there.
The airports closest to the Cinque Terre are:
Pisa (PSA)
or
Genoa (GOA)
From PSA you take a shuttle bus (or taxi) to the Pisa Central station (8 min) and from the station you take a train to the Cinque Terre. Most options will require you to change trains in La Spezia, however there are some Intercity trains going from Pisa to Genoa that stop in Monterosso without need of a change in La Spezia.
From GOA you take a shuttle bus (or taxi) to the Genova Piazza Principe station (15 min). From there you take a train to the Cinque Terre (no change required in many cases, especially to Monterosso).
The Cinque Terre are about half way between Pisa and Genoa. The train travel time from either city is close to 1.5 hours (plus or minus 20 min depending on which village or type of train).

Use a date in the next 7 days to check.
Thanks so much for your reply. It was most helpful!
