What's open in Pompeii on Tuesday?

http://pompeiisites.org/en/visiting-info/timetables-and-tickets/

Does anyone have insights into whether some of the exhibits are closed Tuesdays in June at Pompeii? According to the website hours (above), the villas and museum are closed on Tuesday. I received different information from a private tour guide who says that everything is open. We have the option to visit Pompeii on a Tuesday or Saturday (either on our way from Naples to Sorrento or on the return journey). We don't want to select a day to visit Pompeii when we cannot see everything.

Additionally, we are debating whether to spend the money on the private driver and tour of Pompeii versus taking the local train and hiring a tour guide onsite. Thoughts?

Hmmm, now you've got me wondering. We'll be there 3 weeks from Tuesday and any guides we've talked to haven't mentioned anything although I've been very specific of what we want to see.

Your guide is correct. Oplontis, Stabiae ,and Boscoreale are closed on Tuesdays. "Pompeii" will be open. The closed sites are separate from the most famous one - "Pompeii".

We visited Oplontis and Stabiae, along with Herculaneum, on a separate day from when we toured Pompeii. I would hazard a guess that 99% of the people who visit Pompeii and/or Herculaneum don't visit the other sites - all the better for those who do.

In 2022, we stayed in a great hotel in Pompei across the street from Pompeii. We hired a guide and driver for the day we visited the other three. We were very happy with this company:

Those sites closed on Tuesdays are not in the archaeological park --it appears to me.

I was there two days ago from Sorrento. We did a 2-hour shared tour with Mondo Shared Tours and then explored for 3 more (exhausting) hours on our own. There is no way to see everything! I would get there at opening in June and start a tour before the heat picks up and the school groups arrive. You can have some lines for some sites. Mondo starts at 11, a bit late for June heat.

The public transportation, Circumvesuvis (spelling help) is never on time. Ours was only 30 min late. An hour late is more typical. Allow minimum 90 minutes. There's only one track in places so the train has to wait a long time for an approaching train to pass.

Upon arrival from Rome, we had a driver pick us up at the Naples station and stop in Herculaneum for two hours on our way to Sorrento. That is the right amount of time for Herculaneum, a smaller but more intact site, which is magnificent. We hired a local certified guide at the gate, c€stly, but a good investment for us in our time and curiosity. I recommend certified guides for both archaeological parks.

One thing that did surprise me was how hard it was walking for hours on those old Roman stones. Although I live in Europe, walk everywhere on all kinds of stones or use public transportation, and had on thick cushioned shoes, this was still more exhausting than my daily routine.

World_travels, now that I revisit the website I do remember noticing the Tuesday closures but confirming that the actual Pompeii site is open. It's the sub-sites in other locations a train or bus ride away that are closed.

As said above, the sites closed on Tuesdays are separate from Pompeii scavi so no worries there. The excavation is HUGE so you won't have any difficulties finding enough to see! In fact, you'll only be able to cover pieces of it in a couple of hours.

But repairs and whatnot is an ongoing process so the interiors of some of the structures will be closed due to active work, threat of collapse, or have specific viewing hours. This is the current list of open structures, although some are only viewable from the outside:

"EXTRA MOENIA" means outside the city walls/outside of the city so those are sites that are not within the confines of Pompeii.

And be sure to download the map, and spend some time with the VERY comprensive guide - in English! - before you go. :O)

@Allan. Yes. We were only six in our group, making it quite worthwhile. They couldn't get enough sign ups for Naples, so we're using a private guide here in Naples.

All, Thank you for sharing all this useful information. We've booked a private tour for the Tuesday, which was the best day for us. We are a family of 5 people, so it helped us to hear that the tour size of 6 people was ideal.
