what part of Bologna to stay

Hi,
We'll be in Bologna for one night and can't decide if it would be better to stay near the train station as we will be taking the train to Fabriano or stay in town close to sites. I know it's really a matter of preference but we don't know the city well and are looking for advice and information from those who have been there. We'll get to Bologna early afternoon and leave the next day late morning.

Thanks

I stayed in Albrego Centrale - about 2 blocks from the main square.
I think it was perfect - breakfast included - close to many sites.

Hi Mari,

We stayed at Zanhotel Tre Vecchi - walking distance from the train station but in a nice location. Here's the address: Via Indipendenza 47, Bologna, BO 40121 Italy Expedia shows it for September for $110.

The room & hotel were nice, and includes a good breakfast.

We stayed half way between the two and was able to walk to both. I used a map when choosing an apartment, but there are hotels between the two, as well.

Convenient to the station - directly across the road - is a very nice Mercure, part of the French Accor brand.

The hotel is modern, for business, with an excellent brekkie and rates will fluctuate depending on what's on at the Fiera or the University or in town. You may luck into some pretty good rates.

You could check in, leave your bags, freshen up and head into town without needing to haul your luggage around. For us it was really convenient as it also was across the street from the bus to and from the airport.

Hotel Metropolitan is near Piazza Maggiore, hotel Nuovo Porto is a couple of blocks further but still very close to Piazza Maggiore.

I would stay near the centre. It is a quick taxi trip from the station. We stayed on via Pratello which is 10 minutes walk to the west of the centre - but it had a great range of restaurants and bars.

Thanks for all your responses. We're staying close to the center.
