I will be visiting Italy on my honeymoon and would like to know the best order to visit the following. We will be flying into Venice and flying out of Rome. We want to train to Florence and to Cinque Terre with a quick stop in Pisa to get our picture by the leaning tower. Would it be better to train from Venice to Florence to Cinque Terre to Rome? Or would Venice to Cinque Terre to Florence to Rome be better? We want to make the most of our time. When would be the best time to stop in Pisa?

It is a fairly long day of train rides to go directly from Venice to the CT, usually in 5-6 hour range. putting Florence in between them makes better sense. So Venice, Florence, CT (Pisa stop on the way) and then to Rome after the CT.

We are going to the same places this September- nice choice :) We opted to go Venice-CT-Florence-Rome. On the train from Venice to CT (which is long, as Ron says), we are going to spend a couple of hours for lunch in Parma. We will see Pisa on our way from CT to Florence. Take a look at the train schedules and stops on Trenitalia... I found that made things clearer for me.

Amanda, First of all congratulations! My suggestion would be to travel Venice - Florence - C.T. - Rome, in that order. That will keep the travel times reasonably short. You can easily fit in a visit to La Famosa Torre on the way from Florence to the C.T. It's somewhat "on the way", and you'll enter the C.T. via the southern "gateway" of La Spezia. Which of the five villages will you be staying in? The trip from the C.T. (La Spezia) to Rome is very easy, as there are direct (no changes) trains every day. Travel time is ~3H:45M to Roma Termini. I would definitely go to Florence before CT. I think Pisa on the way to CT. It is a long day as you probably have to change trains in La Spezia too but can't miss the wow factor of the Tower. Happy exploring.
