I am getting myself so confused. The more I research, the more confused I get. We are planning our trip for next summer and will be flying in from Prague. Would like to have a base to see Florence,Pisa,Lucca, and spend 2-3 nights in Cinque Terre, but I can't figure out which place to stay or which order of cities works best. Or is it a better idea to spend 2 nights in each city? We will be using public transportation and flying out to Sicily afterwards. We just like to poke around, walking tour, maybe a cooking class...Appreciate your though Ta!
You could completely base in Firenze to see Pisa and Lucca, then move onto the the CT. See this thread for similar advice. You could then fly out of Pisa or Genoa, although I have no idea if the flights are direct to Sicilia.
Kathi,
Laurel's recommendation to use Florence as a home base for Pisa and Lucca is also what I would recommend. Train travel is easy between those cities. It's also possible to visit the Cinque Terre on a day trip from Florence, although it's a bit of a long day as the travel time is about three hours each way. Staying in the C.T. would be much nicer!
Which airport are you flying to from Prague?
After MORE researching, I may fly from Prague to Palermo, spend a week and then fly to Pisa and go from there...
Would it then best to train to Florence for 3 nights, Lucca 2 nights, CT 2-3 nights, back to Pisa to fly to Amsterdam?
Thanks again!
Although I usually agree with Ken and Laural, I'm going to suggest this.
Florence
CT
Then Lucca...only because it's a 27 min. train ride to Pisa and that's where you
want to fly out of.
