Hi, my husband and I going to Rome (arriving on a Saturday and leaving on Tuesday morning). We are concerned that things will be closed on Sunday. What should be anticipate being closed or open on Sunday so that we can plan our trip accordingly?
Thanks.
We were just there this past Sunday. Most sites were open, except Vatican Museum as previously stated. There were some smaller stores closed on Sunday, and some restaurants also. It did not impact our day at all- plenty of things were open. The Rick Steves Rome or Italy books have a nice listing of daily reminders for opening and closings and we found it to be accurate.
Pretty much everything with above noted exception will be open on Sundays.
But do be aware that public transit (busses especially) will run on a less frequent schedule. We got stuck on Via Appia waiting for our bus for a full hour after we visited the catacombs. Should have taken a taxi instead.
Monday is the day where most of the museums and galleries are closed. If you are planning a day trip this would be the day to do it.
