Trenitalia is not letting me in! I have in the past always used trenitalia, both on their website or on the app. Over the past month I have tried several times to access trenitalia.com or trenitalia.it, but no matter what server I use (have tried firefox, safari, and chrome) or the app (and have deleted and re-loaded the app), it keeps denying me access, saying "access denied on this server." SO.... what other Italian train website do you trust to use to book trains, both locals and freccia? I see Trainline, Italiarail, and Italiatren as possibilities but have never used any of those. We are leaving for Italy in several weeks, so it's not a matter of the train schedules not being posted yet. Rail Europe shows me the schedules, but when it comes to actually booking (and printing some of the tickets), I want to make sure that I am using a trusted website. Thank you for any guidance you can give me!
Have you tried accessing the website or app using cellular plan instead of wifi?
Well that’s weird
I guess I would go to Trainline
You can use Trenitalia's competitor Italotren for high speed train. https://www.italotreno.com/en
For local regional commuter trains where no reservation is required you and the fares are fixed you can use trainline
https://www.thetrainline.com/en-us
or just buy the tickets when you get there from the machine.
I just logged in and booked up to payment the train from Rome to Milano for mid April. Smooth and quick. Tried a number of optional routes with no problem. Must be something in your computer. What did you do to offend their server???
Thanks for so many quick replies, folks! I tried accessing trenitalia via data instead of wifi on my phone app, and it worked! Thanks, Mary. I also booked one (shorter, cheaper) trip via the trainline website ... but the tickets printed out says "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL." I've played around with their website and app over and over and can't find a way to access or print out anything else. However, I have a PNR code for the tickets, and a longer "ticket code" and will get to the train station early to make sure that these, with our names on them, will actually work. In the meantime, I'll attempt to use trenitalia and data to purchase some other tickets, particularly the freccia tickets. I sure don't know what I did to offend the trenitalia server! I'll keep my nose clean, my voice low, and my luggage out of the aisle next time I travel on their trains, I suppose!
I recently purchased some Trenitalia tickets on-line from home. Yes, one of the regional tickets printed says not valid for travel, but the code will work through the Trenitalia app. Hope your trip goes well!
Looks like you are printing receipts and not actually tickets. It is the receipt that is not good for travel. Assume the bar code works for the ticket.
Trenitalia.com is the website for English and Italian. Been buying tickets there online for years (25+) and never had a problem. It could be your device or computer is full of cache. You’ll need to empty your sites from your browser and then enter the website name again. It happens from time to time on devices. This is why I delete all browsing history once a month. It prevents issues like this.
Trenitalia IP bans anyone using certain US ISPs, for example Cox Cable.
If your IP is banned, use a VPN, or your mobile data provider if it’s not banned. Also, consider Italo.
You all rock! Thank you so much for your help. YES I have COX internet! That's most likely the culprit, and explains why I had no problem on the Trenitalia website and app when I lived in a different area of my metro region (New Orleans) and had a different internet provider. With your help, I have successfully navigated researching (via Trainline; I work better researching with 10 fingers on my laptop) and then purchasing tickets on the Trenitalia app on my phone (with one finger) when switched to data. I was also finally able to download the actual tickets (on the app), screenshot them, save them to AppleWallet and then (again) switch to internet on my phone in order to print them as a backup to my phone. It's been a process, but it worked! This thread was also a good reminder to cleanse my browsers. I truly appreciate all of the experience and advice that you all offered, and look forward to some lovely train rides, with reserved seats in Italy soon!
In italy now. We’ve been using the “Trainline” app and it is so good - searches all of the trainlines that run through italy - gives you the times and the best price so it is easy to compare and buy tickets through the app. We had no problems doing this. It was also very easy to change the ticket too right in the app.
