I'd try Pensione Alessandra at www.hotelalessandra.com. A wonderful place with great service and a location between Ponte Vecchio/the Arno and just blocks from the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio. But it's tough to get a clean room with good service AND a good location in the historic center at e85 per night. Hotel Pendini near Piazza Repubblica is also good. If you stay further out, at a cheaper rate, getting back and forth--taxi, public transport--plus time puts you back money, too. If interested, you can visit my Italian travel blog and check our cultural itineraries for Firenze, with costs. Buon viaggio!

I found my B&B using venere.com and cross-pollinate.com. Gianna's B&B was on both sites, however I got a better price on venere.com as a single occupant. It was 75euros per night and breakfast was served in my room every morning at the time of my choice. There is a "kitchen" (no stove, but just about everything else, stocked fridge (no extra charge), bowl of fruit, cookies, crackers, candy all are replaced as you use them at no extra charge. I couldn't eat all the food that was supplied by Mr. John Simpson. It is 5 min from the Accademia, and the Central Market. Florence is very, very small and I was able to walk everywhere. I loved this place and will definitely stay there when I go back!!!

La Scaletta near the Ponte Vecchio. Wonderful (and helpful) people, fantastic terraces, old world charm, light breakfast. Excellent location.

Try this website: www.cross-pollinate.com It is a bed and breakfast booking site owned and operated by an American family living in Rome. I have used them many times in the past and they are great.

You might have a look at Hotel Aldobrandini. It's a very easy walk from Firenze SMN rail station, the prices are very reasonable and the owner is extremely helpful. I stayed there on my last visit to Florence and found it quite easy to walk to the Uffizi and Accademia, the main Piazza (can't remember the name) and the Ponte Vechio.

Happy travels!

In September we stayed at the Hotel La Venere and it was quite satisfactory; clean and comfortable. About 90 euro for 2 and that included a very nice little breakfast and a complimentary glass of wine each evening. It is not fancy by any stretch but folks were friendly and helpful (they made all our museum reservations for us via email prior to our arrival). It is well located just a few doors down from the Medici Palazzo Riccardi and a Tourist Info office.
