Will be traveling to Italy in mid October, staying in the Florence area. Wondering what the weather is like, cool, cold, raining or hopefully perfect? Also, hoping for information about olive harvesting. Is Mid-October when olives are harvested and can tourist participate in the harvest?
I have been to Italy a few times in October and the weather has been warm -- just a little cooler in the mornings and evenings. Check out:

Have a wonderful trip!
Isn't the Olive harvest in the winter?
I thought the olive harvest took place in November and December though changes in weather would dictate when the olives are ready.
Olive harvest starts generally before mid November and it lasts till early to mid December. It varies depending on microclimate of each area, variety of olives, and how the weather was during the summer or early fall because that affects when olives reach ripening. They must be harvested before the fully ripened fruits start falling.
People who participate are paid laborers, often migrant workers. I don't know of tourist tours that organize tourist participants to the harvest
