My granddaughters have just booked a flight from CIA to Shannon, Ireland, much to my chagrin. But anyway, can anyone recommend a good but inexpensive way for them to get to the airport from near the Coliseum. I'm thinking the metro is not best for two young women with backpacks. Thanks much.
Several bus companies go from Termini station to the Ryan Air hub at Ciampino airport.
Ryan Air probably run one, they usually do to their dotty airports.
Terravision is well respected and run buses - it used to be €4 per person.
The metro only goes to the town of Ciampino - not the airport. They would have to get a bus to connect.
Ciampino, although closer in, is absolutely the second string airport.
Best and least expensive rarely go hand in hand. Personally, the best for me would be either a private transfer or a taxi. Least expensive would be by bus.

Flat fee cab to there is 30 Euros for the whole cab, including luggage. That's not a bad price for two.
We took this bus company to FCO. It also goes to CIA. They just need to allow enough time, otherwise a reliable and on-time service.
Donna is right about best and inexpensive usually being exclusive. If the cab fare is indeed a flat 30 Euro, then that would be great. A private car will usually cost a bit more, but is usually the "best". You might want to check out romecabs.com (a private car service -- not a taxi) and get a quote. We've used them often and have always been pleased.
