What does "AR" mean on an online bus reservation form? It's a checkbox...

Reserving a bus online from Naples to Sorrento and the reservation form has a checkbox labeled "AR." I have no idea what it's for or whether I should check it??

Andante e Ritorno ie round trip. We reserved one time and as far as I could see it made not a scrap of difference, you do not get allocated seats just an acknowledgment e-mail. You pay when you board the bus in cash. The driver was not interested when we showed him our acknowledgement print out. I suspect that if the bus had been full it would not been any use showing our reservation!

Have been using the bus over a 30 year period and (touchwood) have been able to get a seat. However, we do travel in May and October so maybe a problem in high season but have seen no complaints about not being able to get a seat on the bus.

The bus is the most straightforward way of getting to Sorrento from Naples airport. Train if you are arriving at Naples railway station.

Thank you! So it sounds like a reservation might not guarantee anything :-(

I've always been cautioned about the Naples trainstation...figured the bus would be better b/c you can pick it up right at the airport and avoid the trainstation all together.

Is it better to take the bus or the train on that trip?

I will be making a similar journey mid July and I always thought the train was the better option?

AB - we prefer the easy life. Despite having used the train route with no problems beyond having to haul luggage, would rather take the (very) short walk from the Arrivals Hall to the bus stop! Also drinking a beer or coffee at the outdoor cafe is a very civilised way of waiting for the bus.

Have a great holiday.

No. The trains to Sorrento are about every half hour, the last one at 22.44. Currently there are six buses a day, the last bus is 19.30 (timetable in the link I posted above). This is the Circumvesuviana timetable from Naples station.
