What do gardens in Roma/ Lazio look like in Mid-October? Romantic Leisurely Outings?

Hello fellow travelers: I am planning a trip to Rome for mid-October 2026 in honor of an anniversary.

My husband suggested visiting Castel Gandolfo.
Another common suggestion is Tivoli.

Both locations are well known for their gardens.

By the 10th-16th of October 2026, what kind of shape do you imagine those gardens going to be in? Will anything be in bloom, or will the plants mostly be pruned down for winter? I see the rose garden on the Aventine is open 24th October 2025 - 10th November 2025, for fall blooms, so I'm wondering if our dates in mid-October are just going to be a little off for blooms in Lazio.

Are there any other outings from the city of Rome that would be both Leisurely and Romantic that I haven't considered?

Are there any Romantic or Slower-Paced events happening in mid-October in or near Rome that we should be aware of?

Many Thanks!

I like Orvieto a lot. It's a hill town that has a lot of sights to visit as well as an atmospheric historic district. It's a popular town, so you will not be alone. I suspect in October it might be a good bit less busy on a weekday; a good number of the visitors are Italians.

In October it's still too early for pruning. It's southern California weather in Rome at that time, Temperatures are in the high 70s-80. Plant trees may have some leaves that start to become yellowish.
