What do you do going through Security and have a money belt / neck pouch if you cannot wear them ? Here in the states I ask for a security person to keep, or do I put them in the suitcase. I will be carrying the one bag on the plane. Not sure yet when I am going but this is bugging me.
Thanks,
Gail
ps a friend had money / cards stolen out of her purse "at the seat " while she was in the bathroom on the plane
I put them out of sight in my purse or a coat pocket. I never have carry on luggage .... yeah. I know.... it's a sin but I always check my bags,
Gail,
Simply put the money belt / neck pouch in your carry-on, and put it on just before landing (use washroom to be discreet). Don't wear it through security as they'll likely detect it, and then you'll be faced with the embarrassing "reveal", while you're holding up the queue at security.
Yep, must remove neck wallet and money belt before enter security, put in carryon bag. I put both back on right after I leave security.
Put the money belt into a deep pocket inside my carry on before arriving at the airport keeping my passport in hand. After security, I go to the rest room and dig it out and put it on.
Put my neck pouch on at home before leaving for the airport, keeping my passport out inside a chest zippered pocket. After checking in, I go to the bathroom and put my passport back into my neck pouch which I ware until I get close to being screened by TSA at which time I stick it into the middle of my carry-on bag. After passing thru security, I go to a bathroom and put my neck pouch back on again leaving my passport out in my chest zippered pocket until I get thru gate check. Once on the plane and seated, I replace my passport into my neck pouch. When arriving in Europe, I take my passport out of my neck pouch before exiting the plane and put it back into the zippered chest pocket to have it handy for whatever is required. I go into a bathroom at the airport after using the passport for whatever came up and replace it into my neck pouch again. Sounds like a lot of work but in doing this for the last 13 years, it seems almost automatic now.
I start my trip wearing the money belt / neck pouch , everything exactly the same.. Camera Bag, luggage nothing changes till I arrive back home. Easy having a routine from the get go. Thanks I will do the same as you suggest "on off , back on ".. A friend of mine had her money , cards stolen out of her purse "at her seat " while she was in the bathroom on the plane.
I use a neck wallet. I leave it in my purse until after I get through immigration. Once I'm passed that hurdle , I make sure I have whatever cash is needed for transportation and I start wearing it. Sometimes I feel like a kindergartner with a note pinned on my chest, but at least I know where it is.
I keep it in a small crossbody purse through the check-in/security/flight/landing/immigration process. The purse stays on me, except when it needs to go through the security machine, then it goes for a ride in my suitcase.
Once I'm through immigration at the destination airport I find a restroom and put on my money belt. No need to overthink it!
Husband carries the bulk of Euros we take in a Moneybelt that goes on in the airport bathroom after security. And YEA there are pickpockets on airplanes...Either my husband or I always stay with our stuff and never leave it unattended on the plane. All my Credit cards, passport and a few euros are on my carry on tote bag by my feet (I don't wear a money belt).
Gail, put your money belt in your suitcase (or purse) when you go through security. Some time later, when it is convenient, put your money belt on. You are unlikely to encounter a pick pocket in the secure part of an airport.
But when you arrive in Europe, you may be jet lagged and confused, so have your money belt on before you leave the secure part of the airport. I feel like one of the most vulnerable times is when I come out of customs and there is a large crowd of people waiting or on public transportation with crowds at the airport. You may not sense vulnerability in a new environment when you are tired. And it's inconvenient to lose passport, credit cards, money, and mostly preventable with a money belt.
I think theft in an airlplane is very rare but it makes sense to take your purse with you to the airplane restroom especially if you are traveling alone or your travel partner isn't paying attention.
I keep my money belt in my purse until my last trip to the toilet on the plane before landing at my destination. I never leave my purse at my seat on the plane unless I have a traveling companion.
I always wear my money belt under my clothes with most of my cash (if I have it) and plastic in it when I'm flying. I have no metal in it. I was only once stopped in security in dozens of trips. It was because I was frisked (extra precaution in Germany) and the contents were bulky. I don't remember if she just accepted my explanation or if I had to pull it out from under my clothes, but I am sure I wasn't asked to remove it.
I often wear a neck pouch for my passport. I am always required to remove it to go through security.
And I would never leave my valuables at my seat on the plane, any more than I would anywhere else. If they are in a purse and not on my person, I take the purse with me when I leave my seat.
I put the neck wallet in my personal item before I leave for the airport, keeping my passport/boarding pass in a jacket or pants pocket. After security, I find a restroom and put on the neck wallet, put the passport in it once I don't need to show it. So when I land I don't have to fumble around reuniting the wallet with its contents.
When my husband & I fly, he watches my carry on; if I'm travelling alone, I take a small lock to put on my carry-
on in case I have to go to the washroom!
When in Europe he has a flat wallet that completely zips up with a slot to put his belt through. It's then hidden beneath his shirt/jacket. It carries both our passports, nexus cards, insurance cards, credit cards & bills. Unbelievable how small it fold up. I have a small backpack purse that I keep my camera, gps for the car, water bottle, and a little cash in. If's its a crowed place, hubby stands behind me or I put it on my front. I like to keep my hands free.
I also have a backpack with wheels that I use when travelling by train or plane. Hubby can't look after my carry-on & suitcase as well as his own. At that time my small purse backpack goes in my carry-on.
Just got back from Italy, wore it through security everywhere with no problems.
And definitely wear one at the Bologna train station. I'm pretty sure I was the only guy there who wasn't a pick pocket.
