What could be next after 5 days in Tuscany and 2 in Cinque Terre?

I could use advice on the what to do on the remaining 3 days after a good 5 days in Tuscany and the two nights in Cinque Terre. We have 3 more days left before we head home from Milan airport. We have a vehicle. Portofino? Genoa? Lake Como?
or anything else I'm missing? Thanks for any suggestions.

What time of year are you traveling, and what would you enjoy doing with that time?

Yes the Santa Margherita / Portofino combo is worth a look. Rapallo and Camogli in that area also look good, but I haven't been to those two.

Next month - June.
Trying not to drive too much but settle in for the last few days as the days prior are alot of walking, hiking, biking etc.
of course we never grow tired of anything cultural & eating good food and wine. Thank you!

Do you plan on spending any time in Milan? I think there are at least 2 days of stuff in Milan. We are planning 3 days there in September, and there is Padua, Verona, and other areas north. Also Lake Como

Since you have a car (you know where to park in CT, right?), I would not stay ion the train line but drive toward Milan, where you have to finish anyway, and spend two nights in Alba, the last in/near Milan depending on your flight time.

If you leave from Milan Malpensa Airport and you have a car, to me the most logical choice would be to spend the last 3 days on Lake Maggiore, then from the lake you drive directly to the airport the morning of departure. From Stresa, for example, it's only 45-50 min drive to the airport.

While Portofino / Santa Margarita Ligure are wonderful, you might enjoy the contrast with Lake Como instead. Check out Varenna, a small village on the north end of the lake that is easily accessible from Milan by train. You can also drive along the lake to get there. Rick Steves recommended Varenna, and we loved it. From there we took a ferry (15-minutes) to Bellagio for a lovely lunch, but Varenna has a more authentic, down-to-earth vibe.

I agree with Varenna/Lake Como. We are heading back to Italy in early June and put Varenna on the itinerary for a second time. You can stop in Como, then take a fun and beautiful boat ride from Como to Varenna. You get to see so much of the lake. Spend the night in Varenna. You can always take a train back to Como, then Milan. Have fun!
