I am trying to find some hotels in downtown Sorrento. We want to be close to the main area of restaurants, shops, etc.. In checking the travel
websites they list different areas of Sorrento to filter your search. I don't see downtown Sorrento and don't know what area it's called. Thanks
Piazza Tasso is the main square, about 10 minutes' walk from the train station. From there, Sorrento spreads west.
Some websites, like booking.com, have a "city center" option (at the top of the listings under "location") to filter your search, as well as maps for a closer location view.
I have had a quick look at Venere.com booking site and used the following filters Historical Center Marina Piccola The vast majority of the hotels listed are pretty central (one or two are slightly off centre but still walkable) and include hotels located along the cliff top in Sorrento town itself. The town is not very big and the main part is on the flat. We like to stay in the area around Piazza S Antonino/Old Town area which is a block off Piazza Tasso and on the ocean side of town. If you would like to have a look-see for yourself use Google Streetview to have a "walk" around Sorrento.
Definitely do Google Streetview. I can't believe anyone would make a reservation these days without checking it out there first.
Ditto Michael!
