What are your favorite musical experiences in Italy?

One of my all time favorite things to do in Paris is to attend a musical performance at the church St. Chapelle.

I’ll be visiting Rome, Sorrento, Orvieto, Assisi, Florence, Vernazza and Venice this summer as well as Siena, where I’ll have a car and the ability to visit other towns in the area. I’m already looking forward to the Gregorian chanting at Sant’ Antimo.

I would love your suggestions on similar types of entertainment.

Grazie!

While in Sorrento with a RS tour, we saw an Italian Folk Music performance at a theater and it was terrific! The Information Center in town should know about it and have times, location etc.

Ahh! Last July we experienced a concerto of Vivaldi in Venice, held in the prison of Palazzo Ducale, right there off San Marco. The quartet featured some of the best college classical musicians from across Veneto. About 25 of us fit snugly in the room at night, listening to these amazing kids play their hearts out for us, featuring hometown boy Vivaldi (a native of Venice). We're by no means experts in classical music, but this blew us away--we'll never forget it. The formal name of the organization that sponsored the event is The Orchestra Collegium Ducale. You could google it for a schedule of concerts this summer.
