What are to stay in Tuscany: near Monteriggioni or Montepulciano?

Hi there! My friend and I are spending a week in Tuscany, end of May, and we aren’t sure where to stay. I found several farmhouses-agriturismos in both areas. Is there any advantage to one area over another?
We plan to site-see, go wine tasting, and would love a cooking or pasta-making class. Oh, and a pool…. ☺️
Thanks!

If you are looking at agriturismos I assume you will have a rental car as these farm stays are out of town and you’d be stranded without one. Manual transmission cars are much less expensive to rent than automatics.
Montepulciano is the larger of the two towns offering you more to see, places to dine etc. but both are nice towns to stay in.

My personal preference is Montepulciano. The town is larger and has great restaurants and shops and is a great home base to explore a large portion of Tuscany/Umbria. For wine tastings in the area, I would suggest Avignonesi, De'Ricci, and Dei - but there are so many in the area, you can't go wrong! For accommodations with a pool, I would suggest Fonte Martino Guest House & Estate which is a bed and breakfast just seconds outside the historic center of Montepulciano.

Have a wonderful time! -Norman

We enjoyed Monteriggioni for a 30 minute walk around. It's not a town for an overnight.
