hi all almost done with my itinerary for the fall-thanks to all your wonderful advice and input------we will leave the lecce area heading back to rome--------we have 2 nights left----and 2 1/2 days to get back to rome----I need some advice------vieste? Well, we like the Trani area. Great little seaside town that makes a good base to see sites like the awesome Grotto Castalana, etc. good seaside restaurants. Maybe go explore the Gargano Penensula? Pick up a Lonely Planet guidebook and do some reading.

All of the places suggested are great. I like Alberobello and Matera for unique sites, but Matera might be difficult to reach quickly without a car.
