West or East in Lake Garda / Lake Como during lake August 2019

I am sure this topic has been dissected a zillion times, but not sure if it is viewed from a different perspective.

Most of the reviewers recommend east side of the lake (i.e., west facing rooms), probably for optimal sunset and sun-bathing perspective.

However, I read that most Italian hotels hard-set the lowest air-conditioning temperature to 75 degree F (23.5 degree Celsius). It doesn't mean the room would stay at that temperature all day, as the west-facing rooms (lake view rooms) during the summer would be baking due to afternoon sun's radiation.

It could take a while to cool down the room. If windows are opened, then we may need to deal with mosquitoes issue.

Therefore, isn't that East facing room type better, from sleep quality / comfort perspective?

Any idea and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve never thought of that.
What if you stay on the east side of the lake and they give you an east facing room with the view of a wall? That should keep you cool.
I think you should choose the town based on other criteria. Once you choose the town, you select the hotel.
I think people here suggest the east side of the lake because most travelers here stay in Varenna (lake Como) or Malcesine (lake Garda) but for reasons that have nothing to do with the hotel views.
Varenna is very accessible by train, Malcesine is very accessible by bus from Verona and also near Mt. Baldo, which is very popular.

If you decide on Menaggio (west shore of lake Como) this hotel has great views. Make sure to ask for a room facing the lake though.
