Were to spend the most time, Venice or Florence

Were trying to decide on how much time, days to spend in each of these cities. We probably have about 10/11 days which includes the travel days. Will be going in Oct. flying from Stuttgart into Venice and I guess a train from Venice to Florence. Fly from Florence back to Stuttgart.
Open for suggestions and recommendations.

We found a lot more of interest in Florence.

Make a list of what you want to see and do (including day tips), and choose time allotment accordingly.

I think I had the most fun in & found Venice (& its nearby island like Murano & Burano) more interesting, but Florence allows you to more easily explore a bit more outside the city proper.

My family and I just did a 12 night trip in Italy, broken out like:

Fly into Venice from USA
2 nights Venice
4 nights Florence (train from Venice)
6 nights Rome (train from Florence)

I wish we would have done 3 nights in Venice, 5 nights in Florence, and 5 nights in Rome.

Picking between Venice or Florence, I would for sure do more in Florence.

I suspect the responses you get will split down the middle. It's strictly personal taste. I won't say we didn't like Venice. It's a beautiful, fascinating place, but we felt like we had one too many day there (four nights), whereas we totally fell in love with Florence from the moment we set foot in the city. We had three nights there and wished we had several more.

All depends on day trips.
If restricting your visit to just Venice or just Florence and no day tripping from either ; I would say spend more time in Venice HOWEVER there are better and more day trips you can take out of Florence than Venice so in most cases I would give more time to Florence once time outside of the city is included.

With 10-11 days you have plenty of time to include day trips from both and in that case give more time to Florence.

You can visit the most salient sights of Florence in 2 full days (3 nights).
In the same amount of time, you can visit Venice and the lagoon islands (Murano, Burano, Torcello).

As mentioned above, the issue is day trips to nearby towns.

Florence (the capital of Tuscany) offers plenty of opportunities in that regard, so, after giving two full days to each of the aforementioned cities, I would allocate most of the rest to take day trips to Tuscan towns from Florence.
