These mayors dream a new one every day to come up with some extra money for the City coffers. All those traffic fines collecting cameras are not enough.

But I want to see how they hope to implement this measure. It's hard enough to do so in an isolated island in the middle of a lagoon, but Como? Millions of vehicles pass through there to drive into Switzerland.

I honestly think they do this to try and generate headlines and the idea that they are charging people some kind of fee to put it in people's minds and hopefully dissuade them. The logistics make no sense and no fee will ever recover the cost of effective enforcement making it a drain on the local economy.

Venice has tried this in the past - even running ads talking down Venice and trying to scare people away and we can see how well that has worked for them.

The way is supposed to work in Venice.
Go to the website below.
https://cda.ve.it/en/
Fill the required information then pay the ticket by credit card or PayPal
After payment is processed you should receive a QR code
If the police stops you while walking on one of the days where the payment is required, for example on April 25, a National Holiday in Italy, you must show your QR code on your phone to prove you paid, like you would show a train conductor on a train in Italy if you paid the train digitally.
There are some categories who are exempt for payments, for example those who stay at a hotel overnight. In that case you will still need to register as an exempt person on the same website.
Basically walking in Venice will be like walking inside a train. You must have a ticket with you or you pay the fine.
Thursday April 25 next week is the first day this system is supposed to work. Let’s see how it goes.
I want to see how it will work for those (generally elderly) who do not possess or use a smartphone.
