Does anyone have an idea when European schools start in the fall? We would like to vacation in Florence/Tuscany without school age kids.
It depends on how you like your school age kids - scattered in their natural habitat or concentrated in large boisterous groups.
As soon as school starts, I think immediately in September as everyone returns from their August vacations, many museums and monuments are visited by school groups learning about their patrimony. So, in Florence, expect to see them.
In rural Tuscany it hardly matters. Summer or fall, kids play in the town piazzas into the evening. For me, that's one of the joys of Italy.
They don't go to school over there - at least the teenagers don't. They all are around the piazzas all over Europe throughout the school year.
Or it just seems that way.
