Is Taormina significantly busier on the weekends in Taormina in 3rd week of September? Trying to plan dates for next year. Is it best to avoid the weekends here?

Since September is still prime tourist season these days I wouldn't worry too much about weekends being excessively more crowded. But I would research when cruise ships will be disgorging thousands of day trippers from the ports of Messina or Catania.

I am currently staying in Castelmola (just above Taormina) & go down to Taormina almost daily. I agree with Nancy J. I haven’t noticed more tourists on the weekends….it’s the cruise ships to be aware of. Thursday there were 3 in port & the city was very crowded. September is still considered high season so expect crowds, that’s why I chose to stay in Castelmola.

I agree with Andrea. When the cruise ships are in port the town is terribly hectic, but it’s pleasant when none are in port.
