Weekend Florence travel

Is it best to avoid Florence on Saturdays and Sundays in September? I know making reservations at popular sights is recommended and we'll do that, but wondering if weekends are just too crazy to go?

I don't think it will make much of a difference. Sunday might be actually quieter since many Florentines might be visiting out of town.

Roberto,
Many shops might be close in Florence on Saturday. September is usually quite a busy month because all new exhibitions start after the holidays. Weekend or not weekend will not change much. August for instance is rather quiet as many people go to the seaside. Also a very quiet period is from 2January to 7th January and you can still benefit of the nice Shopwindows and Christmas lightning.
Florence is small but has a lot of things to offer!

No shops will be closed on Saturday. That's the busiest shopping day.
On Sunday some shops may be closed, but Saturday, zero chance of stores being closed.
