We are planning a trip thru this region of Italy in October, plan to do Lake Region first, train from Milan to Florence and rent car to explore and enjoy these regions. Looking at benefits, and best location of reserving one week villa (there are 3 of us) or apartment and making that our homebase...each day, exploring different towns, cities returning at night. Or, packing up and moving to different towns and staying the night, moving on. What is best option, we don't want to be driving all the time...but, we also don't want to be lugging luggage or storing in car outside towns we visit every day. Any suggestions on how best to enjoy this region, and if we do homebase what would be most central location (ie Siena? San Gig? Florence?)
Hi Connie,
What types of things are you interested in doing while in this region? Relaxing by a pool, visiting wineries, going into Florence or Siena, bike riding, or just seeing as much as possible? We are staying at an agriturismo outside of Montalcino for four nights and then moving onto Assisi for three nights in September. I like the idea of breaking it up so that we can visit some towns if we want, but that we don't have to drive two hours each way for the places that we want to visit.
