I used rentalsflorence.com for an apartment. I had the first one listed on their site. Nice people to deal with (Recommended by Paula Frommer's Italy book). You can't do much better than next door to the Duomo.

Either of these sites will give you access to apartment rentals (3 to 4 bedrooms not to difficult to find). If you have to opt for a hotel, you will be spending around 500 - 800 euros per day (assuming 2 per room).

We stayed 5 nights at Hotel Davanzati. Family run hotel with terrific service (including laptop in each room, free internet access, white noise machine, decent breakfast, nightly happy hour, and excellent recommendations and suggestions for meals and tours for any budget).

Also try cross-pollinate.com. They have B&B and apartments. I used VRBO.com to rent an apartment in Florence for June. It was very easy. Many owners have you use paypal to send your deposit. VRBO also had some houses for rent in the countryside.
