Week after Cruise

So - our cruise ends on Oct 9 in Trieste - we fly out of Rome on the 15th

Current thoughts.
- Fly to Genoa then train down to Rome
a day or 2 in Cinque Terra,
Pisa
Rome
-Fly to Naples
2+days - Capri, Amalfi coast
Train to Rome
2+ days

One other option was leaving our cruise the day before - In Bari and driving to Naples. Heard about the driving on the coast as being not quite fun.

Then Train to Rome..

Any thoughts appreciated.
Never been to Italy but had driving/travel experience in Bih/Croatia and Japan (Taiwan/China/Singapore had travel experience just not driving)

No interest in Venice?

2 days is not enough for Amalfi Coast

For CT, Pisa, Rome I don’t see a need to fly to Genoa unless you are spending time there
Just take train

Also a train from Bari to Naples, no need to drive

We have the week before the cruise for Venice - 2 days - the 2 days in Lake Bled.

The reason to fly was to reduce some travel time...otherwise I was going to take train to Florence then Pisa...CT

As far as Bari the reason to drive was to take time to visit Matera, Trulli di Alberobello Puglia

I think if you add up the time it takes to get to/from airports and the time for security, baggage, etc you’ll find train is faster/easier

A quick check doesn’t show any direct flights from Trieste to Genoa
If you fly from Venice -there are no trains to VCE from Trieste
Requires a cab/bus or boat

Take a direct IC from Trieste to Florence-5 hr- then regional to Pisa or your CT town of choice about an hour more or less

Leaving your cruise in Bari is not a bad idea
Rent your car in Bari, road trip for a few days then drop car in Salerno
Train from Salerno to Naples( if you want time there) or train to Rome- you will need to be in Rome the night before your departure flight

Trieste is in NE Italy, you could take the train to Venice, then high speed train down to Rome.

Why fly from Trieste to Genoa or Naples?

Rome has plenty to see but wife loves beaches so either CT or Amalfi coast was on the list.

Thnks for the time to get to plane vs train.

CT is a lil harder to get from Trieste than to get to Naples from Bari I think.

Esp since we fly outa Rome ...and there's an easy train from Naples to Rome.
its either Northern Italy (Cinque Terra/Pisa from Trieste) vs Southern (Naples/Capri from Bari)

If you want to go to Capri and AC then get off at Bari-that will save a lot of time
I would drive in Puglia but NEVER on AC so train from Bari to Naples then to Sorrento and stay there-will also save time since you still need to get up to Rome
