Wedding info for Lake Como (pandemic be damned!) late April/early May 2021

Who knows what will happen with this pandemic? No one!

So we're moving forward, planning our daughter's wedding for Lake Como the last week in April, 2021. (Of course, we're ensuring contracts have "out" clauses for us, yadda, yadda, yadda...) It dawned on me that this forum could be a great place to get advice/experience/information for locations, planners, caterers in and around the lake? Do you have any to share?

Our expectation is a small-ish wedding -- ideally no more than 50 people. His extended family lives in the UK and South Africa, so we expect more of them than us 'Mericans.

We'll probably rent two places for a week to ten days -- one for the younger folks in the wedding party and one for us geezers on both sides of the aisle. We're hoping that either one of the places will be the venue for the event, too. Non-wedding party folks are on their own for accommodations. Suggestions? Ideally they're near each other, since I anticipate a LOT of back and forth...

My friends whose offspring have been married swear by a wedding planner. It makes plenty of sense to me to have someone who knows the vendors around Lake Como represent and work with us... Suggestions?

He and she will likely get married officially here, and then ceremonially there. We understand it makes the official paperwork better -- but I don't know either way about that. Have you actually had such experience? If so, advice?

This forum has served me well planning for trips of a lifetime... Now I need help planning an event of a lifetime! Thanks for sharing your experiences and advice...

Cheers!

It would be helpful if you specified which town on Lake Como you plan to stay. Or is that still undecided?

Hi, Joe.

We have not made any decision on the city... Really, we're flying blind on this -- well, blind and the Internet...

Possibly the most iconic villa on Lago di Como is Villa del Balbianello. It was used for the movies A Month by the Lake, Star Wars Attack of the Clones and the 2006 Casino Royale. No accommodations, but you can rent it for events. It's a popular wedding spot.

Prices range from 2100 Euro for a ceremony for 10 (while it's still open to the public) to 30,000 Euro for having the place to yourself for 6 hours and dinner for up to 100 friends.

Contact Daniela, the owner of La Limonera in Bellagio. We have stayed with her since 2001!

We went to a destination wedding in Positano on Amalfi Coast several years ago and the couple had a lot of paperwork to do prior to the wedding but it could be because they were married in the Catholic Church. Also the best man could not sign the wedding certificate as he did not have his passport with him and fortunately my son had his with him so he signed. Just something to be aware of with planning. Best wishes with the planning.

We got married in Italy and our wedding planner was Federica Zambonini. Her business is Verbano Events. She was amazing and a lot of help! You can message her on Facebook under either page. Tell her I sent you for info!

I would also definitely recommend Bellagio for the wedding.

Just a side note, we’ve been to Bellagio twice in late April and it’s still a bit chilly that time of year. Likely you will have rain as well. June would be better if you can make that work.

Congrats on your daughter’s wedding. Bellagio is indeed beautiful but there's lots of lovely spots off of Como. Since your party is smaller, you have a lot more choices. We are working with Roberto and Alessio at alessiominotto.com for our wedding (not in Como tho). Both speak excellent English and are super responsive. Roberto can give you tons of options depending on the style you'd like and your party's needs. Our guest list is about the same size as yours. He's organizing an aperitvo and a tour for them during their stay, so I know they'll be taken care of, so there's another idea. Best wishes! It's an exciting time!
Edited to add yes by all means get married in the states and do a symbolic ceremony here. I won't get into too many details but bureaucracy is crazy here and you need to make several special trips to different offices beforehand if your daughter really wants to do the official ceremony here. Here's the American Consulate's instructions just to give you an idea. The American consulate and prefettura offices in Milan are closed to the public now and are only taking appointments for emergencies. This could be a possibility for you in April depending on the virus. To avoid any headaches during this uncertain time, I'd do the official ceremony in the US and a symbolic ceremony here (no bureaucracy).

I knew we'd get some great direction from folks on this forum! Thanks everyone for sharing -- and continue doing so, please.

I get that the weather may not be superb, April... People's crazy schedules make it tough getting a window of opportunity that suits everyone. Thanks, Nickelini for info about Villa del Balbianello -- a stunning candidate for location, to be sure... Suki, we'll ping Daniela. I think your lodging suggestion could be a great place for wedding guests. Gail, I checked the link in Jackie's reply, which clearly confirms your dual suggestion to marry in the US officially -- so that'll happen.

Now if we can get out of this new weird abnormal and back to an old weird normal for two or three years.

A huge congratulations to your daughter.

I am so thrilled to have found this post!

Myself and my partner (from London, England) got engaged in Lake Como this Summer and are absolutely set on getting married there although because of the pandemic we've been a little hesitant to start officially looking.

We're hoping for under 50 as well, and have our hearts set on Belaggio - this is where we stayed in Summer and is supposed to be one of the most romantic spots on Como.

We're thinking September 2021 may now be a safe bet given the recent vaccine news, although I'm still reluctant to put any deposits down. Yes there can be clauses, but I wouldn't want to hedge my bets if the venue were to go out of business.

We're currently looking at Villa Serbollini as our top option, although there are so many other beautiful venues - as someone else previously mentioned Villa del Balbiano is very popular although I fear a little out of our budget!

I'd be very keen to hear how your daughters plans develop - including deposits for venues and wedding planner. I'm hoping to do ours without a wedding planner, with the exception of paperwork.
