We want to stay in a beach area for five days my husband and adult daughter any suggestions for hotel and good home base for day trips prefer to stay at beach or close by
Car or not?
No car can get a car service if needed or use trains
Check out Sperlonga.
Orbetello is great, but I would prefer to have a car in that area.
Sperlonga looks gorgeous have you stayed there could you recommend a hotel ?
Thank you
No, I just know of it as public transport accessible. Try booking.com.
Thank you for your suggestions do you know if the travel to Santa margarita Ligure is a good idea.then day trips to cinquea terra is a good idea also?
Cinque Terre is too crowded for my tastes, but SML is lovely. Book early as all coastal spots are popular.
Thanks for the tip that SML is good I have to ask again any hotel to recommend preferably with a pool ?
I love a word of mouth suggestion!
I stayed in Camogli and visited SML on day trips. My b&b was up in the hills so not walkable to a train station, but just in case:

If you opt for Santa Margherita, try the Hotel Continental. The views and breakfasts are great and the pool area is a delight.
Then you can visit Camogli, Portofino, and train down to any village in the Cinque Terre too.
Thank you this sounds perfect I’ll check it out tonight,
hey maryann
good answers here, cinque terre will be crowded during summer along with other beach areas. check out miomyitaly.com (best beaches in liguria), sestri levante or moneglia. fellow poster roberto is from Florence area and hope he can give more info. go further north of cinque terre or outside rome. check booking.com for either hotel/apartments, if you have a car is parking available of not how far public transportation, AC.

Yes, take a look at Hotel Continental in Santa Margherita Ligure. We were one of the few non-Italians staying there. Right on the water, no road in between as with many hotels there.
Thank you I am getting prices now!
