Wedding in Florence on May 9th

Our very dear friend is planning to get married in Italy on May 9th. She and her parents have already paid thousands of dollars in deposits that are non-refundable. Any suggestions or advice? I think it's reasonable to hold off making any final decision until at least the 1st of April. Thoughts?

Your question is whether or not we (forum readers) would advise you to go? Or are you looking for advice to the bridal couple and their parents?

If it was me, given the information currently available, I'd be sticking to my plan to go. Caveat: I have no expertise in the field of public health.

Not sure what the question is, but the entire situation has so many 'what ifs', that getting a definitive answer to how many angels can sit on a pin head may be easier to resolve, than to offer any truly helpful "suggestions and advice"

There is currently a ban on weddings (among other things) through April 3, across all of Italy. If things do not improve, it could be extended. I suggest you wait and watch the situation before booking flights.

Our wedding is May 8th in Florence. We will probably see you there. As of now, we are not cancelling. The only way we will not go is if the government bans all travel to Italy or if the Italian gov't cancels the wedding. I couldn't imagine missing my son's wedding.

On the other hand, we were scheduled to go to Venice for a couple of days after the wedding. This is being reconsidered. We are not making any decisions until the time draws near to the final dates for the cancellation policies. This won't be until the beginning of April as well. So for you, there is no problem with waiting to see what is going on at that time.

Thanks everyone. I'm looking for reassurance! Ultimately it's the bride and groom's decision, but we'll risk going as long as we can get into Italy.
