Can anyone direct me to a web site that has a complete listing of concerts in Rome? All I can find are concert calendars that list large venues and major international acts. I'm more interested in finding some smaller venues hosting more cutting edge acts. Any suggestions?
Try these: http://www.classictic.com/en http://www.buzzinrome.com/ http://www.timeout.com/rome/search/tag/4286/music I don't know of a single-source the is "complete," but these should help you find some possibiities. You can pick up local schedules/guides at the TI when you arrive, too. Ciao!
Thanks. The buzzinrome site has some helpful dinner suggestions. None of the sites seem to have any info about upcoming music events in the city, however. Here is the site everyone in Seattle relies on to find shows: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/EventSearch?eventSection=3208279
Searchable by date, venue, type of music... is there anyhting like that for Rome? I can't believe there isn't...
Laughing out loud Sam. Can you believe there are NO Starbucks in Rome?!? Why don't you search music blogs for Rome, something like this: http://www.indiebandsblog.com/ or this: http://www.howdoesitfeel.co.uk/rome.html
Amazing tool Google.
I don't speak Italian either Sam nor do I make assumptions about what I expect to exist in a European city based on my experiences in the States. Simply of matter of research and willingness to take the time to do it. Enjoy your homework and take note of what the previous poster mentioned. Italians exist in a perpetual state of La Dolce Vita. Different pace, different lifestyle and time has a different value to them.
Wow, Claudia. I guess I must be a complete moron for assuming that a 1st world European capital w/ a population of 2.8 million 21st century residents communicating via iphones, androids, ipads, PCs, etc. probably has a comprehensive list of concerts, shows and music events. That's really exactly the same as asking if there is a Starbucks on the Spanish steps. Obviously, the act of asking such an insipid question proves I have no concept of internet search engines, nor the ability to use them, filter results, use quotes to further narrow results, Use the minus symbol to exclude keywords, use "related" to find similar pages, etc.
Perhaps I am having difficulty finding what I am searching for because I don't speak Italian, therefore my results are skewed. But thanks any way for your incredibly condescending answer.
you could try google.it which is the italian google site. try googling "musica dal vivo roma" to see what comes up It can be difficult to figure out what's happening from a distance. I don't know Rome but in Florence websites are not the best way to find out what's happening. Often the websites are just not updated until a couple of days before things happen even for major events. Big posters on the street are often the way to find out what's happening. You may just have to wait to find out when you get there. Think of that as part of the fun. I once asked a Florentine about the best place to have a birthday dinner (this was only 6 weeks in advance). His reply? Anything can happen in six weeks - ask me a few days in advance. Restaurants can close, take holidays, close for personal reasons for the day, and on and on and on. My point is that sometimes in Italy things are better left to the last minute. (Not hotel reservations though!) Good luck!
Sam, it's a perfectly legit question. I speak Italian and I'm having trouble finding something that lists performances at the smaller venues that you're asking about. There HAS to be something like that Stranger site, because Romans are indeed very cosmpolitan and tech-savvy. It's just a matter of finding it. When are you going to be there? I'm finding some stuff about music festivals (ala Bumbershoot), but they might not overlap with your visit. In fact, the big one just ended. If you do find such a site, please come back here to post it so others can benefit from your experience. Happy travels.
This is a great question; unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to search and do the homework. If you find anything, PLEASE let us know! :) I've heard that Campo Firo (sp?) is a hot spot: farmer's market by day, music and night-life by night. It's in the Trastevere neighborhood close to my apartment; I'll be studying in Rome from June 24 - Aug 3.
I'm c/p this from another post: if you're a night person, check out Big Mama on Vicolo C. Francesco a Ripa 18. It's a blues club in Rome and we had a wonderful evening. It's easy to get to with a map off the number 8 tram.
Mardell,
I think you mean Campo dei Fiori, and it is not in Trastevere, but across the river near the historical center, close to the ghetto. I have never thought of it as a musical "scene," but it is lively at night.
Laural, Thanks! Yes, I do mean Fiori and I'm still states-side so not exactly certain how to find it. I know it's walking distance from our Trastevere apt :)
