We are arriving in Rome Thursday - just a check on current weather as the forcasts are for cool and rain - with the rain, are the rains usually heavy or just showers. Any help so we can pack appropriately would be welcome.
I have asked the Roman Gods for sunny, pleasant, dry weather - thanks and we can hope!!
Weather in Italy this week is unseasonably cooler than normal. Generally, during warm months, when it happens to rain at all, Rome is famous for short heavy downpours. What will actually happen next week, only the Roman Gods know.
At this exact moment, according to the weather widget on my laptop it is 17 degrees and clear, with a view of the moon. 18 in Venice and Milan and 19 in Bologna, still sunny as the sun hasn't quite set.
We were in Rome last Wednesday and it was raining and cool. The umbrella guys were everywhere sticking umbrellas in our faces. The rain was hard enough to get pretty wet. Rained for a few hours non stop. Take a rain coat for sure, and if you are of a mind...a small umbrella (we don't use umbrellas, just the hood of our jackets. The rain actually kept us from walking very far...we just went out for dinner and back to the hotel...
The last couple of days I have kept my windows closed as it has gotten too cool. There has been some rain but it is usually overstated in the forecast, at least lately. Many days have predicted rain and even thunderstorms, and the most we got was some clouds. It can be very spotty, depending on the part of the city, also. Bottom line: it's variable, sometimes the forecast is right, many times it is not, and it's a bit cooler than normal.
Barbara, According to the weather app on my iPhone, this is the forecast for Rome at the moment (could change at any time of course): > Thu - Rain, H17, L12 > Fri - Mixed Sun & Cloud, H18, L13 > Sat - Sun with possibility of rain, H18, L13 > Sun - Mixed Sun & Cloud, H19, L15 If you do encounter rain, an Umbrella should suffice. Happy travels!
If you do find yourself in a sudden downpour, and are anywhere near the Pantheon, stop in. Kind of cool to watch the rain pour in through the opening in the ceiling/roof. I hope you find good weather at all other times though. Cool and overcast isn't necessarily a horrible thing (if it was 90s and humid, now that is cause for complaint!). Have fun.
Hi Barbara, Just returned last night from 2 weeks in Italy and Rome. Rainy, cool and windy although yesterday when we left the weather was beautiful. Ellen mentioned the "umbrella guys". Who are they and where do they get their supplies. If it's sunny they have sunglasses, rainy, umbrellas. Do they have a huge warehouse...Plus they are totally obnoxious, on the streets and in the restaurants trying to sell their junk to the tourist.
I was also just in Rome last week and it was fairly rainy, but I didn't think it was that cool if you just have a light jacket and short-sleeved shirt. Or carry an umbrella and have a long-sleeve shirt. The weather was somewhat bipolar in that it would be sunny in the morning and get us later in the afternoon or vice versa.
In Rome yesterday. Wore Capri, short sleeves, light jacket or sweater every day. In Pompeii today and have not taken my sweater off yet, and that is further south. It is actually quite pleasant. Think 60s to mid 70s.
I will arrive in Rome monday morning, and leaving thursday morning. Weather.com says thunderstorms monday and tuesday. BUMMER!
