Weather now in Cinque Terre, Venice, Dolomites?

Heading to Italy in less than a week! I'm getting excited and started packing today, but the weather looks a little cooler than I was expecting. I knew it would be cool in the Dolomites, but even Cinque Terre and Venice look rather cool - especially at nice. (my kind of weather, actually)

If anyone is over there now, what do you recommend that I bring to wear? I had planned on skirts and sundresses, but it's looking more like pant/capri weather. It's also making me second guess my shoe choice.

Also, does anyone wear maxi skirts there? Haven't heard them mentioned. Or, is that just an American thing?

Trying to keep it all in a carry-on (with my tripod for my camera). Yikes.

Thanks!!!

Last September, I wore a fish-themed, maxi-length sleeveless dress in Venice and the Cinque Terre and felt good in it. I chose a less beachy style for Florence and Rome, however. I probably don't make the same "warmth" distinction as you between skirts and capris; they could be similar, depending on fabric. Most of your outdoor hours will be in the daytime, more than the evening, and a jacket, sweater, scarf, or other layer can tag along on the way to dinner. Outdoor enthusiasts would probably say that keeping your core and head warm are more important to heat loss than arms and legs are.

Skirts and sundresses in Italy? Be careful or the door guards at some popular attractions (churches) may not let you in.
The capri pants may be a little better fit.

My wife always wears jeans whenever hitting the city streets of any major city. We never know where we'll need to sit to rest, and going grubby just works better when touring.
And whatever you do, don't carry more than a 22" carryon and a handbag or day pack.

Yep - trying to do the carry-on :) A little tight, but I think I can make it work. I'll definitely need the day pack too - I'm a photographer, so will have my camera and a tripod in my carry-on - I hope :)

We probably won't be in the churches, so hopefully won't need to worry about that. I wasn't sure - I figured skirts would be fine?

Skirts are fine unless they are very short. Dresses and skirts that hit at the knees are not an issue at all. Sundresses may be if you have bare shoulders and back, but that can easily be covered by a scarf or light sweater that you carry in your day bag.

Most daywear for Italian women in the summer are skirts more often than shorts or capris, so I would not worry about skirts.

In the Dolomites you never know what you'll hit.... I layer: pants, tee shirt, cardigan and a windbreaker if necessary. You probably won't need hiking shorts just yet.

Maxi skirts and dresses are everywhere. I start the morning with a sweater right now and by 10 or 11 it's nice enough to take it off. Only have had one HOT day so far!

Thanks everyone for your input! I was thinking of bringing a maxi-skirt - Now I have to see if I can fit it in my carry-on :) Just saw that it's supposed to rain (70%) our first day in Cinque Terre :( A little bummed about that, since we only have two days there.

I think I'll be waking everyone up with my rain jacket, knowing how they don't really wear bright colors - It's bright, bright, bright, aqua, haha. I tried to find a more subtle one to buy for the trip, but no one is selling coats right now!

Anyway, getting excited and nervous! 3 more days!!!

Don't be put off by the weather forecasts, especially several days in the future. We are near the CT and the predictions have not been very accurate - mostly better than forecast.

Some times the rain may just come during the night and you only see wet streets. May tends to be a transition time every where. Remember you are heading into warmer not cooler time of year. It could get pretty warm by the end of the trip. I am going at the same time you are but not going further north than the CT, I bring one pair of jeans that are a little heavier than the others and one sleeveless, capri out fit and the rest in between short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve and lighter pants. One shoe, One Sandal. One light jacket, one cardigan, and a travel umbrella.
