Weather late May, Castelrotto, Italy/Seefeld, Austria

How is the weather at the end of may first week in June in Castelrotto, Italy (and Seefeld, Austia if you have any info.)? Am considering a hiking trip and wondered if it would be too cold, too rainy.

We were in Castelrotto mid May 2008, beautiful, very warm weather (80+F), but that was the year of the heat wave all across Europe. We hiked in capri pants and sandals way up the Seiseralm and even tho there was snow in places we were very warm. This is a very beautiful area, you will love it! Spent some time in Seefeld during the Winter Olympics in 1976, remember it as a very pretty area, very easily accessible from Innsbruck, and even in the winter it was not cold (according to my Canadian prairie standards!!!)

No one can tell you what the weather will be in May-June in the Italian Alps. Maybe roughly 55 to 60 if you're hiking into the mountains surrounding Castelrotto. But who knows? But hey, since you asked, here's a SWAG for you (I wouldn't rely on this):Average day-time temp in Milan (a better benchmark than Venice which is on the water) is 70 - 75 in mid-May and 75 to 80 in mid-June. The town of Castelrotto is in the mountains about 3000 feet higher in elevation than Milan. A rough rule of thumb is that temp decreases 3 to 4 degrees F for every thousand feet of elevation gain. Doing the match yields a SWAG-estimate of mid-60's to 70 during the day in the town of Castelrotto. You said hiking, if you're hiking in the mountains around Castelrotto, they're at roughly 4000 and 5500 feet elevation. Doing the math, if your hike tops out at 5500 feet, it might be roughly 55 to 65 F at the high point of your hike. That's air temp, mountain areas often have significant wind, esp. in the afternoon--so the wind chill factor may make it feel cooler on your skin. But who knows? As Barb's post indicates, my SWAG could be totally wrong for this year, weather in any given year can vary widely from the long term averages. The first semi-reliable idea you'll start to have will be a week to 10 days before the date you'll be in Castelrotto. Keep checking the weather forecasts, right up until the time you leave, if you want the most reliable info.
