Weather in Rome/florence

We are reaching Rome next week. this is our first time in Italy. Extended weather shows that is all raining in Rome and Florence next week.

Will like to know how much of hindrance is rain? we are taking Colosseum tour on Thursday and Vatican on Friday. Any special preparation/packing that needs to happen to tackle rain? This rain is dampening our vacation spirit.

We are just back from a week in Rome where the forecast before we arrived was poor, while we were there the forecast was mixed, and the reality was that we encountered an hour of moderate rain once. Bring a light water-resistant jacket, a travel umbrella, and stop looking at forecasts - you're going to love it.

Except for the next couple of days, when there is high chance of showers, I don’t see certain rain in the forecast. You should check more reliable websites such as:
www.wunderground.com

Thursday and Friday in Rome shows clear and sunny.

Many of the places you will be visiting are indoor (museums, churches, palaces), therefore a little bit of rain shouldn’t dampen your spirits. Just have a light rain jacket, and an umbrella. Actually you don’t need that either. As the first drops start to fall, scores of African vendors will appear from nowhere fully equipped of rain gear for sale. If you buy from them, bargain hard, and you can get an umbrella for 2€.

I agree with Mike. Don't worry about forecasts. I've looked at extended forecasts for trips to Europe in the past, and they often end up being wrong. Pack as Mike directed so that you are prepared, but you'll probably have a lot less trouble with rain than you're thinking you will have.
