We are planning a trip during the last week of October to Rome, Pompei, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. Any information on the type of weather we can expect?
Weather question are always a shot in the dark. How would you describe the weather in Coatesville for the same time period? It SHOULD BE dry and mild. Beyond that is anyone's guess. We were in Rome in late October two years ago and it was terrific. But ran across another couple who had arrived in Rome in the previous week and faced fierce wind and rain storms for several days. You prepare for a wide range of weather and hope for the best.
Always a crap shoot because Mother Nature does what she wants when she wants. On average though: http://www.italylogue.com/planning-a-trip/italy-in-october.html I'd take water resistant coat and some Capilene for warmth.
Just in case, just in case.
Not surprisingly, that's a frequently asked question. So check out the FAQs on this site for the best source of weather information, as opposed to the anecdotal responses you might get. Happy travels!
Last October we were in the areas you listed. We were lucky. Very little rain and mildly warm days. It was a great time to visit Pompei in that it wasn't hot. We wore layers and always had a lightweight, water resistant jacket with us. Enjoy--we did.
Go to RS 2011 Tours, click on Italy, click on Italy in 17 days, look over on the right hand column and click on tour weather.
That will give you historical averages. Much better than in what the good folks on this web site might remember for one moment in time.
The weather underground - wunderground.com - in the trip planner section. It shows the actual conditions - hi, lo, humidity, etc. by day for 10-12 years back. Basically you can expect anything at that time of year.
just checked trip planner on wunderground, as suggested in these posts. didnt even know it existed. very helpful. It does suggest Cinque Terre area is less risky than most posts suggest, so I am wondering about that. I had booked for 5 nights there, but now am not sure if that is too long. Everyone suggests light rain gear and umbrella (you can buy in cities, too) for most areas of Italy for October.
we leave in 3 wks. hope you have a great time, too.
