What is the weather like in southern Italy in mid-March...Rome to Sicily?
Thanks! I had just learned that I was going to Italy with a family member March 17th for ten days. I found the list of temperatures and have figured them out. It sounds as if Rome could be chilly, but the further south I go, of course, the nicer the weather becomes...hopefully, it won't be too cold and rainy!

hmmm...don't count on it!!
Last March, it was warmer in Rome then some part of the South...March (same as in the US!) can be beautiful....or very chilly (year before last there were freak snow storms in parts of the South)
Also...remember...while the coast is very temperate, inland can get very chilly! check temps. right before you go and bring layers!
One thing to consider when packing is that places in Southern Italy are not heated to the same standard we are used to here in the US - I have eaten many a meal with my coat and scarf on (!) - ok...so I must admit though that I'm always cold (!) many places (including hotels) do not have central heat at all...so ask if it's important to you. It is a damp cold and wool layers will be very welcome. (unless you are staying on the coast the whole way down - obviously, much warmer...about 10 degrees f than inland in general)
I am planning a trip in mid-March also for the Rome marathon. I have been pouring over this web site as well as marathonguide.com. Posts from runners of both the 2007 and 2006 marathons (both in mid-March) have said the weather was unusually warm. One runner mentioned 20C (about 68F). Not a bad temp. for walking around, but warm for running.
Wife and I were in Venice in March 2007, and the weather was perfect. The sky was blue, the air was crisp - not cold, and the tourists were fewer than in June!
