Hi Everyone - piggy backing on a previous post. The weather in Italy & Greece is supposed to be very hot the next few weeks.
Pls. provide suggestions on what to wear in the evenings since it looks like it will be in the low 70's. During the day I will be wearing shorts in the evening ???? Pants / skorts / capri's? We will be going to the opera, on a food tour, and to dinner the 3 nights we will be in Rome. Thanks in advance.
So, have you shopped your closet or are you making a late-breaking Target run? In warm weather travels with varied activities, I enjoy a combination of sleeveless dress/cotton cardigan combo, easy-wearing (read maybe an elasticized waist and/or forgiving dirndl/A-line-shape) skirt with cotton t-shirt (with a detail or two that dresses it up) top and linen-blend flow-y capris. My style is to aim for dressy casual with a lean towards upscale sporty and in my experience find that lightweight garments in fabrics that either 'breathe' or wear comfortably are the way to go. I'll make my wardrobe picks and purchases from among a broad retail spectrum and adore finding a great piece in the down-market shops. Thinking of a Fred Meyer scatter-print purples/black/pinks lightweight jersey knit dress I picked up for a song. It is supremely well suited for travel, fits perfectly/forgivingly and in my estimation looks quite nice. No heavy, stiff, ill-fitting picks ever do I want to lug behind me. Have all the joy you can handle making your packing list for your trip!!
Thanks!
I'm thinking of running over to Chico's and picking up some travelers pants. I have them in black - they are light weight with elastic waist band. I'm thinking of picking up a pair in blue and tan and removing blue and tan stiff cotton (similar to dockers) pants I have packed.
If you are thinking those Chico's travelers' pants that are all synthetic material (I forgot the specific name for the line), I have multiple pieces from that line, but find that the fabric doesn't breathe at all. Fine for indoor, air conditioned places, but if you are sweating at all (as we do here in southern Louisiana, and as many of us also do in Italy in mid-summer!) then you may find that they are sticky and uncomfortable. You might reconsider taking some cotton capris, etc., instead.
During the food tour, you could wear the same day clothes.
When I attended the opera at Venice, Verona and Vienna, I either wore black pants with a pretty blouse & a scarf or a dress with pretty sandals. Even though it’s hot outside, the opera house will probably be cool enough for polyester. And, my nicer dress was a thin polyester, so it packed very small.
For outdoor dinners when it’s hot, I like a cotton dress or thin pants, but you’ll see people wearing everything. What would you wear outdoors in your hometown to dinner? Pack what feels good to you.
