I’m wondering how the weather is at the end of April in Italy ( Florence, Rome, Venice). We leave next Friday and it shows rain every day but my daughter is there and said it doesn’t rain much. Hoping it’s not going to rain every day!
No one can predict the weather. All you can do is look at the historical averages and pack according to that.
take something waterproof with a hood light and layer as needed underneath. It is spring time
When the forecast says rain, it doesn't mean it will rain all day. It's usually a passing shower. Bring an appropriate jacket and umbrella. When the downpour comes, you can find a doorway or portico to stand under and get to know some people in the same boat.
That makes me feel a little better and it’s a good attitude! It’s just so depressing to go on the weather app and see rain every day.
We are watching the weather as well. We leave in two weeks and can only hope for beautiful weather. We traveled the same time two years ago and it was warm and sunny.
weather forecasting is not an exact science.
I look at wunderground website for historical data for the past 5 years. It lists temperature AND precipitation. Go to the calendar view of your city of interest then change the year and look back 3-5 years for your dates of interest. Even if it shows raindrops, look at the accumulation for a reality bite.
This is great info. Thank you!
I’ve been moaning the weather report too. We’re leaving in three weeks for Rome and south of Italy. Thanks for everyone’s responses. I’m feeling better that April showers will bring May flowers.
2 weeks for me too!
I will start getting worried when I am 2 days out and it shows rain all the time.....but I went 4 years ago a little later than this, it was beautiful when I was in Salerno, and then a bit rainy in Rome......we shall see, fingers crossed for all of us!
I obsess about the weather lol. The suggestion to look back on the weather underground app was a great one and a bit of a relief. We shall see! Everyone have a wonderful time. It’s my first time so we are beyond excited!
In the cities you are visiting, you will be visiting museums, churches, palaces, etc. all of which have roofs.
Spring in the Mediterranean is changeable weather, so be ready for both rain and shine, often in the same hour.
Currently in Italy visiting our daughter as well and the weather report seems to change daily ..for our trip for the better. We were supposed to have rainy weather for 6 days in Florence and although we had a passing shower one day, it was either sunny or partly cloudy. Spring is in the air but certainly not hot in Florence. Italians are still in winter jackets and scarves (gloves in the morning) which seems odd but they prepare for the chill and act accordingly. Saw a lot of tourists looking cold in shorts!
you can also check weather.com and get an hour-by-hour forecast for a given day, although forecasts lose reliability after about 3 or 4 days.
Anyway, look there and see how much rain there is on a given day. It typically lists also the probability of rain, so you might see rain forecast, but just a 10% probability. Or a 90%.
