Weather forecast in the Dolomites - Rain!

Hi- I will be in Cortina on September 8th - 10th and Ortisei the 10th - 13th. Looking at weather forecasts, it looks miserable. Rain showers every morning and numerous thunderstorms in the afternoons. The first time I was supposed to be in the Dolomites the mountains were totally socked in the whole time, so we ended up in Venice for a week. I'll be devastated if that happens again. I'm a landscape photographer, so love atmosphere, but not low lying, socking in the mountains, clouds.

How accurate are the forecasts 10 days out? I saw that Cortina had mudslides a couple days ago from so much rain and 70 people had to be evacuated.

Ugh!! I'm crossing my fingers and everything else that we at least get some blue in the sky and can actually see the Dolomites.

How accurate are the forecasts 10 days out?

Consider the accuracy of your own local home forecast 10 days out and that is your answer: probably not super reliable. I would wait to fret until September 5th or 6th. Pack rain gear. And make a plan B (and plan C) so you can be nimble if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Unfortunately, Alpine weather is very fickle. The forecast cannot be trusted until 1-2 days prior, unless there is a major storm in the area. Very sorry if it rains again for you. I know how it feels.

Also, use the local forecasts, which are more reliable.

Unless you live in Southern California where its sunny nearly 365…..mountain weather is unpredictable…. Hope for the best…. But have a Plan B.

I live in the Alps. Too soon to say what the weather will be likely in 10 days. They regularly get it wrong for the next day. September is usually a good month in the Alps. You are staying six days. It's unlikely to be bad for all six. As others say, have a plan B and hope.
Meteoblu is accurate/pessimistic.
