weather and closures in Florence in October and November

I'm planning a trip to Florence later in the fall, either mid October or early November. Should I expect cold wet weather? Will most sites such as museums and galleries to be open this late in the tourist season?

The many museums and sites will ALL be open. While not as crazy busy as summer, Florence is always busy, and 'open for business.' Weather is weather, but you can look up a 'typical' temp/rain average on weather.com to give you an idea of what to pack. I was there late April one year and had January type weather! Another time in November, had May weather! In Southern Spain two years ago, we had snow in late April! You just never know. Look at the forecast the week before you leave for a more 'accurate' forecast that can help you with your packing.

Once when we were in Rome in October, it was so warm that I almost mailed my jacket home. Fortunately I did not because we FROZE in Florence. It was unseasonably cold and windy but when we went on to Venice, it was warmer. We will be there in early October and will have a sweater and rain jacket and waterproof shoes (Keens). Layers are the best for traveling.

Galleries and museums: everything will be open.
Temperatures: Hard to predict 2 months ahead, but generally it's not very cold. Just cool.
Rain: Also hard to predict the rainfall two months ahead. However the famous Great Flood of Florence of 1966 was on November 4. The previous famous Great Flood of 1844 was on November 3. In between there was another major flood during WW2. It was in 1944, on November 2.

I'm not trying to convince you to pack a boat, but an umbrella is highly recommended. End of October/early November is the rainiest time of the year.
