Who knows anymore? Things are changing so, that past experiences seem to matter little.

But generally, in October, temperatures tend to be nice and mild (mid 70s F), but yeah you could have a few scorching days of heat.

October is getting into the rainy months, so could be variable. Again generally, they only average rain on 7-8 days for the month, some can be heavy, some areas, especially on the East coast can be prone to flooding, but I would think you can have a nice trip with only infrequent rain.

The website timeanddate.com has actual, historical, day-by-date weather data for most cities around the world. I like to check the most recent five years' data when I'm deciding what time of year would be OK for a specific location.
